As a highly elastic, high-temperature, and corrosion-resistant flexible tubing material, silicone tubing is widely used in the medical, food, chemical, and industrial sectors. Its production methods and quality control directly impact the performance and reliability of the final product.
The main production methods for silicone tubing include extrusion, compression molding, and injection molding. Extrusion is the most common process, suitable for the continuous production of tubing of varying specifications. This process begins by mixing raw silicone rubber with vulcanizers, fillers, and other additives in appropriate proportions. After thorough mixing in an internal mixer or kneader, a uniform rubber mix is formed. The mix is then extruded through a die at high temperatures (approximately 120-180°C) through an extruder to form a tubular structure. Vulcanization (typically using hot air or steam vulcanization) sets the shape, resulting in a silicone tubing with excellent elasticity and strength.
Compression molding is suitable for producing silicone tubing with complex structures or thicker walls, such as those with flanges or special fittings. This process involves placing the rubber mix into a metal mold and vulcanizing it under high temperature and high pressure (150-200°C, 10-20 MPa), ensuring precise product dimensions and excellent mechanical properties.

In terms of application, silicone tubing's high and low temperature resistance (-60°C to 250°C) makes it suitable for extreme environments, such as high-temperature fluid transportation or cryogenic laboratory equipment. Its excellent chemical inertness ensures compatibility with a variety of media (such as water, oil, and acid and alkali solutions), making it widely used in pharmaceutical, food processing, and laboratory equipment. Furthermore, medical-grade silicone tubing must meet stringent standards such as FDA and USP Class VI to ensure biocompatibility and non-toxicity and odorlessness.

In summary, the production of silicone tubing requires a combination of material science, precision machining, and strict quality control to meet the needs of diverse industries. In the future, with advances in material modification technology, the performance of silicone tubing will be further optimized, expanding its application in emerging fields.
